About the Maiden's Tower, famous traveler Evliya Çelebi says, "It is a four-cornered, high tower made artistically at sea at an arrow shooting distance from the land. It is exactly 80 (eighty) ells. Its surface area is two hundred feet. It has doors at the ground level at two sides." The history of the Maiden's Tower, which is located off Salacak coast and near the Anatolian side of the Bosphorus, goes back to the Byzantine period in 300 B.C.
